The United Kingdom's Ministers of Religion immigration category will allow you to come to Britain to perform recognized religious duties. This will include preaching to a community and performing pastoral roles. This will not include coming to the United Kingdom temporarily in a non-pastoral role to perform religious rites or other duties. These situations will be covered under Tier 5-Temporary Workers.

Summary of Employer Requirements

If an organisation wishes to offer employment to people from outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland under the terms of Tier 2 for Ministers of Religion then it must first:

Register with the United Kingdom Border Agency and obtain a Sponsorship License
Advertise the job in the United Kingdom in accordance with the terms of the Resident Labour Market Test
Issue a job offer and a Certificate of Sponsorship to an applicant it wishes to employ

Summary of Applicant Requirements

In order to gain entry into the United Kingdom under the terms of Tier 2, an applicant must satisfy the Tier 2 for Sports People Points Test shown below and acquire the full 70 points.

Tier 2 Points Test for Ministers of Religion
|
|
You must meet the Tier 2 Maintenance Requirement for which 10 points are awarded
You must meet the Tier 2 English Language Requirement for which you also get 10 points *
You must be in possession of a valid Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship for which you score 50 points
|
|
* (It is assumed that people applying for entry under Tier 2 for Ministers of Religion, generally require a higher level of English language ability as they must address a congregation. For them an IELTS - Level B2 - score 5.5 or equivalent is the required minimum if the evidence is by way of a test result)

Extension Applications for Tier 2 for Ministers of Religion
|
|
An applicant will need to have been issued with a new Certificate of Sponsorship for his or her continued employment
|
|
After a continuous period of residency in the United Kingdom for five years, the applicant will be eligible to apply for settlement as a permanent resident (also known as Indefinite Leave to Remain).
