The entrepreneur category is for those investing in the United Kingdom by setting up or taking over, and being actively involved in the running of one or more businesses in the United Kingdom.
You can apply under the entrepreneur category if you are:

|
in the United Kingdom and want to make an initial application as an entrepreneur;
already in the United Kingdom as an entrepreneur and want to extend your permission to stay within your existing category;
already in the United Kingdom as a business person or innovator and want to extend your permission to stay in the entrepreneur category;
applying for permission to enter the United Kingdom (known as 'entry clearance') under the entrepreneur category.

To apply under our points-based system and be accepted into the entrepreneur category, you must pass a points-based assessment.
You must score:
|
|
75 points for your attributes which are different depending on whether you make an initial or extension application; and
10 points for English language; and
10 points for available maintenance (funds).
|
To apply for the first time
|
|
Points are awarded for the following categories, which are known as attributes:
|
|
access to �200,000;
the money is in a regulated financial institution;
the money is disposable in the United Kingdom.
|
|
You will need a total of at least 75 points to be able to apply.
The points available are:

To apply for extension
|

You will need a total of 75 points to be able to apply.

English Language Ability (10 Points)
|
|
Applicants must show that they are proficient in English by proving one of the following:
|
|
They have passed a test in English equivalent to level C1 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework for Language Learning (equivalent to a grade C or better at GCSE)
Come from a country where English is the majority language spoken
Have taken a degree taught in English (this is verified by using the National Academic Recognition Information Centre data)

Successful proof of one of these criteria will earn the required 10 points for the English language requirement.

Maintenance (10 Points)
|
|
Applicants from outside the country will be required to score ten points by proving they can support themselves and any dependants.

2/3 of the �2,400 is required for first dependent of the main applicant, and 1/3 for each subsequent dependant.
